"The 1985 Cos D'Estournel,a wine that is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot was aged in 100% new oak for the first time,is cast from the same mould as the 1982 and 1953 vintages.It is forward with a fabulously scented bouquet of toasty new oak and concentrated red fruit.On the palate,it is very rich,lush,long,and full-bodied". "Bricking dark red color; appealing,sweet tobacco,salty plum,dried currant nose;tasty,mature,dried currant,tart plum,tobacco,anise palate with firm,sweet tannins; has decades more to go; medium-plus finish".

"Consistent with my last note.This wine is very graceful and balanced.Plummy Cos fruit with classic earth/mineral tones and just a bit of Cos spice.Choosing between vintages,'85 is currently superior to the '86 with a much more direct approach and clear personality".
