Description

Although the label is in a very poor state, this bottle must have been kept in ideal wine storage conditions. For a 39 year-old wine, the wine fill is still incredibly high into neck and if the recent tasting notes below ring true should be drinking at its best now:-

"This is the best showing yet of the 1985 Latour, a wine that I have consistently rated in the mid to upper eighties. Most tastings of it have revealed a light, precocious style of Latour. At two tastings this summer, the wine was considerably richer and fuller. While surprisingly evolved and soft, it appears to possess more body and depth than I initially projected. It is an outstanding wine, with deep color, soft tannins, and plenty of the classic mineral, cassis, walnut-like fragrance that characterizes many vintages of Latour. Approachable now, the wine should reach its plateau of maturity by the mid-nineties and last through the first decade or more of the next century".
(90 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate).

"Almost as great as the 1982. Dense and luscious with amazingly deep plum, blackberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and full tannins. A wine with a terrific future. Try after 1998.--The Bordeaux 50".
(95 Points).

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. August 2000).

Three recent tasting notes on Cellartracker on the 1985 Latour:-

"This was a "wow" of the night. Not the typical powerful structured Latour but the 1985 vintage offered incredible elegance and very seductive texture/acidity. On the nose, lots of red fruits, modest leather, hint of smoke, mint, and lightly roasted herbs, very pretty and complex, on the palate, the fruits were vibrant and more toward Burgundian-like red berries, extremely silky texture, and great lingering acidity which I typically find more in top right bank Bordeaux wines. Couldn't stop drinking it, I absolutely adored this wine".

MS.BUBBLEHEAD. (Cellartracker. 20/11/2018).

"This was the WOTN. decanted for probably 90 minutes. This had a very pretty nose - some tobacco and pencil lead and red fruit notes. definitely more on the elegant medium bodied side - not purple - more medium red in color and body - could easily have drunk this without food all night - so savory, yet good fruit, good acidic cut, complexity and long pretty finish. I was impressed with this - I think this was an exceptionally well preserved bottle as I bought it from an avid wine collector's cellar who clearly stored this perfectly and bought it at release".
(96 Points).

WINELOVER1808. (Cellartracker. 28/11/2018).

"I've read some quite unremarkable reviews of this wine. This was my first Latour experience and it's really quite something: youth, wonderful balance, precision and length. Incredible nose. And it just kept giving for hours. I see why some say Latour and Lafite are, to some degree, unapproachable for 25 years".
(95 Points).

LOZFOZ. (Cellartracker. 26/10/2018).
