Description

The level is 'base of neck' - normal for 30 years, the capsule is in good order.
The label has suffered and these are probably not for those who judge a book by its cover... This bottle came from a Yorkshire cellar that had flooded some time ago and the case of Cos was on the floor...

Dec 1992 Robert M. Parker, Jr. 95 Drink: 1992 - 2022
This is the most powerful and tannic Cos d'Estournel made during the decade of the eighties. The colour is still an impressive, nearly opaque dark ruby/purple. Except for some subtle aromas of toasty vanillin oak and cassis, the nose is closed and unevolved. In the mouth this full-bodied wine, which exhibits no signs of evolution, is firmly structured with medium to full-body, outstanding depth, and a hard, though not abrasive, exceptionally long finish. This impressive Cos should be cellared for another 4-5 years. It is capable of lasting for up to 30 years.

Jancis Robinson 17/20
Lovely deep crimson shading to purple. Particularly healthy colour. Deep, dense, strongly Cabernet aromas that are still unyielding. This wine could mature into something eventually finer than the Talbot but, boy, will it take time. Drink 2006-2015. Date tasted 23rd Sep 02.

Wine Journal
Nov 2009 Neal Martin 92 Drink 2013 - 2025
Tasted at the Cos d’Estournel dinner at St. John. This bottle is similar to the one last year: dense, masculine, wet sand, austere on the nose, as if the wine is slamming a door in your face, but after a time there is a lovely touch of cardamom that develops. The palate suggests that it is worth cellaring, superb concentration, a rather robust, foursquare structure and a stoic facade, leading to a tannic, quite leathery finish.
Drink 2013-2025. Tasted March 2009.
