Description

A good (and indeed rare) bottle with a good level - just into the neck - an almost complete label and embossed capsule to match. Firm cork.

Some recent Cellartracker notes:

2/11/2018 - TONY MOLESTER LIKES THIS WINE:
No formal note. Decanted for 90 minutes and then tasted over 2h, the wine was surprisingly open straight away. It is clearly mature, but far from being feeble. We greatly enjoyed it over the course of the meal and evening. Cloves and cinnamon, a savoury aftertaste, wrapped in that Musar lightness that is so appealing. A great wine, and fully mature...

9/24/2017 - SHARONANDROLAND LIKES THIS WINE: 94 Points
Very classic style of Musar

5/20/2017 - JOHNRM LIKES THIS WINE: 94 Points
Still browning slightly and becoming more pale but still a good colour. Contents only marginally below the cork which was soft so I used a two-pronged 'waiter's friend' to remove it. Opened 6h before tasting. Even then, the wine needed at least 10 mins in the (large) glass to begin to open. I don't think we gave the last couple of bottles enough time after opening.
Lovely fruit - plums, cherries - on the nose with cinnamon, nutmeg spice and the merest trace of VA at first. It had all the expected fruit and spicy complexity on the palate with rich 'Christmas cake' flavours as well as soft, very elegant, tannins. Again, it seemed a little less sweet than younger vintages at first but very rich. Great with a rare fillet steak but even better on its own later. Cherry brandy on the late plate.
If you have well-stored bottles of this vintage, have the confidence to let it open gradually in the decanter over a few hours and then in the glass. It may be 30 years old but it takes its time after opening to yawn, stretch its limbs, and show what it is made of. A fantastic bottle.
