Description

An excellent bottle of this 4th Growth Pauillac with a full, clean label, a firm cork and level as it should be for a nearly 30 year old at Base of Neck.

90 points Wine Spectator
Offers leather and earth on the nose, subtle and perfumed. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and firm tannins. Fresh and rich, with a clean finish of chocolate and fruit. Not a lot of length here, but very pretty. Holding on nicely.—'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009). (Web-2010)

Some CellarTracker comments :

1/9/2018 - THOUGHTFUL LIKES THIS WINE: 90 Points
Stored in a cold cellar since release. Subdued bouquet. Needed plenty of air to open up. High acidity. Some tannins. Medium bodied. Sufficient fruit. Nicely balanced. Time in hand but hard to predict. Chance of something rather special.

1/3/2018 - THEWINEJUGGLER LIKES THIS WINE: 93 Points
Bouquet shows complex with caramel, coffee, pencil, licorice and a bit cassis.

Palate is shows class and classic Bordeaux elegance. The tannins are well integrated and help a lot for the structure. The wine itself is highly balanced and shows great aromatics. Long lasting finish.
Drink: now – 2028

Conclusion:
“90 bucks are a lot for a wine. But that’s Bordeaux! And to get such a bottle in this quality, is really hard. So I’m was highly amazed to have the opportunity to drink this truly classic Bordeaux along my new years diner!

This is what I love on old styled Bordeaux: They are made for the eternity!

If you have some bottles in your cellar left, there is no need to rush. The wine shows still very young and will last for at least 8 more years and might even develop more complexity.

I can only highly recommend!”

11/26/2017 - REDDERS LIKES THIS WINE: 92 Points
Some browning but a rich core. Mineral powerful nose slightly burly. Much more refined on palate. Power and depth big structure but a layered long finish. Has the 1989 size but this is an excellent wine and will continue at this level for a few years yet.

11/11/2017 - KINGDOBERMAN WROTE: 95 Points
Still very tight. Decanted for over 1.5 hours and was just starting to open up. Once open lots of red fruit on the nose especially cherry. Very smooth mid palate and especially long on the end. Could still go another 5 to 7 years.
