Description

"Finely crafted traditional wine.Intense aromas of blackberries, cherry and tobacco.Full-bodied,with lots of tobacco and ripe fruit and velvety tannins,Best after 2001".
(90 Points).

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. 1989 Bordeaux Horizontal Tasting in 1999).

"For me,the big surprises are the best bottles of L'Evangile 1989.More forward, and revealing more maturity than the 1990,the dark ruby/purple-colored 1989 (some amber is beginning to creep on the edge) offers an exotic, sweet, chocolatey, toffee, roasted herb nose, thick, fat, ripe flavors, low acidity, and far more complexity and richness than I originally imagined. This delicious wine is close to maturity...perhaps that is why it is beginning to perform so well. This looks to be a terrific L'Evangile that is significently better than I may have lead readers to believe". Last tasted,November 1996.
(90 Points).

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

A more recent tasting note on this wine from the professional taster Richard Jennings:-

"Bricking dark red violet color;appealing, savory, olive, green olive tapenade, tart currant nose;youthful, tart red currant, green olive, olive tapenade palate with near medium acidity;long finish".
(92+ Points).

Richard Jennings. (RJonWine.com December 2013).
