In 1980 Chateau Grand-Pontet was purchased by Gerard and Dominique Becot,who also own the neighbouring property Chateau Beau-Sejour-Becot.
Grand-Pontet's vineyards are well situated on the famous limestone plateau found west of the village of St.Emilion and are planted with 75% Merlot,15% Cabernet Franc,and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wine is aged in 80% new French oak barrels for between 12 and 18 months:-
"This excellent wine has merited Grand Cru Classe status since 1988.It has continued to improve,benefiting from the winemaking skills of the Becot brothers".

"High neck fill.Appears young with a vibrant red color,almost totally opaque.Wonderful nose.Changing throughout the evening.Briary,dark berries,smoke,forest floor.Moderately tannic.Seems like it is still youthful and can go on a long way further.Long,long finish".
