Description

This wine is made with 100% old-vine merlot, with many of the vines close to 50 years old.The vines are produced in a specific,small,3 hectare portion of the best parcel that belongs to Chateau La Croix de Gay.This Right Bank Chateau is located not far from its neighbours,Chateau Clinet and Chateau L'Eglise Clinet on the Pomerol plateau. The wine is aged 100% in new French oak barrels for an average of 18 months before bottling.
In select vintages, this Pomerol can be a decadently styled Bordeaux wine.Dr.Alain Reynaud, the noted consultant had a major hand in producing the 1989 and 1990 vintages. Both remain the finest wines this estate has yet made".

Above extracts from Jeff Leve's ""The Wine Cellar Insider".

"I appear to have under-rated the 1990 La Fleur de Gay.This outstanding wine, which has put on weight, was not embarrassed when tasted next to the 1989.It offers an opaque purple color,a sweet jammy nose of black fruits, medium to full-body,ripe tannin, and layers of extract and glycerin in a pure,supple,low-acid finish. The development of this wine's character, complexity, and richness was surprising. Anticipated maturity. Now-2015. Last tasted,November 19996".
(92 Points).

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

In his Fourth Bordeaux Guide Book (December 2003),Robert Parker raised his points rating on the 1990 La Fleur de Gay to 94 Points.

"Slowly fading from its hedonistic peak, this is still an outstanding wine with plenty of Pomerol character.Flowers, chocolate, licorice, cherry and tobacco scents are right in front of you.Medium-bodied,soft and available, the silky cherries and dark chocolate finish with a bit of dust in the texture.Popped and poured, decanting is not necessary, nor is further aging".
(93 Points).

Jeff Leve. (The Wine Cellar Insider.Tasted,3rd October 2016).
