Description

"This is a very aromatic Grange, that seems to be a product of a vintage where the wines were showing extremely well young. It is dense purple, with a sweet blackberry/cherry nose and some subtle cedar and licorice in the background, unctuously textured, thick, full, without as many nuances as some of the greatest vintages of Grange, but very concentrated and dense. Anticipated maturity: now-2017"
(92 Points).

Robert Parker. (eRobertParker.com February 2008).

"The opaque purple-colored Grange exhibits an unevolved grapey nose of sweet toasty oak, ripe plums, black raspberries, and cassis.Full-bodied,with lavishly displayed oaky notes, this formidably endowed,large-scale wine should develop into an impressive example of Grange. The wine was kept open for 3 days, without any trace of oxidation.Give it 2-4 years of cellaring and consume it over the following 20 years".

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide.Fifth Edition).

Some recent tasting notes on the Grange 1992 on CellarTracker:-

"Classic Grange nose of ripe dark raspberries, eucalyptus, and licorice. On the palate, this is medium to full-bodied with good intensity and richness.Delicious fruit flavors of ripe black raspberry and boysenberry that show a jammy side that lead to a firmly tannic finish with complex licorice notes and mineral notes. At mid-age for a Grange and should still improve off its balance of fruit and tannin".
(93 Points).

CellarTracker. (25/1/2014).

"Clearly a young wine, which has only just entered its drinking window, but it is absolutely fabulous.I wish I owned this rather than the 1991.Drink: now-2070".
(96 Points).

CellarTracker. (25/1/2014).

Penfold's Grange will never be cheap again,as it was in the eighties...the 1982 was selling on release in Oddbins for £20 per bottle.
A recent quote from Jancis Robinson:-

"Hill of Grace is now released at A$600 (£413 a bottle),the same price as the iconic Grange".

Jancis Robinson MW. (FT.COM/Magazine. March 2013).
