The lot consists of two bottles of Chassagne-Montrachet red wine from the originally tannic 1993 Burgundy vintage:-
One bottle of 1993 Domaine Vasson Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Morgeot".
One bottle of 1993 Domaine Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Clos Saint-Jean".
"There is not a lot of Pinot Noir left in Meursault or in Puligny-Montrachet,but Chassagne-Montrachet is another matter.These reds are often rather rustic in tannin but can be interesting and delicious,provided one happens on an estate whose skills with Pinot approach those with Chardonnay".
"A similar recommendation (well worth re-visiting),must count as controversial for the intensely tannic,but at times profound 1993s.Some would say it is too early to enjoy them,and others that they were lacking in sensual sweetness all along to make satisfyingly meaty old bones.The best of this vintage have an athletic leanness and stamina,and they will have fascinating stories to tell at the finish line".
