Description

Clearly the 1994 vintage of this wine not only made a big impression on Robert Parker, but also on the Bordeaux panel that decides on St.Emilion classifications.
Shortly after this vintage in 1996,Chateau Beausejour-Becot was elevated to the Premier Grand Cru classification, becoming a member of this high status St.Emilion group, enjoyed by only 17 other chateaux in that appellation.

Robert Parker's tasting notes on this wine shortly after release were as follows:-

"This is undoubtedly the finest wine I have tasted from the Becot family. An opaque black/purple color suggests considerable concentration and intensity. The huge nose of sweet, toasty, smoky new oak and copious quantities of black and red fruits, intertwined with Asian spices is followed with a sweet, outstanding wine of huge concentration,full-body,and moderately high tannin. This powerful, authoritative flavored, intense wine requires 5-6 more years of cellaring. It should last for 15+ years. Impressive".
(90-92 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate.April 1995).

A more recent CellarTracker tasting note:-

"Some thin sediment.Maybe it wasn't fined.Other than that, classic Right Bank Bordeaux.Dark fruits, leather, tobacco, post pressed espresso beans.Medium-body,medium acid, supple with some dust on the palate towards the end.Not a lot of complexity and not utterly balanced, but well made on a not so great vintage".
(89 Points).
