Description

Another perfect bottle from a North Yorkshire cellar with a perfect label, high level and perfect capsule.

Michael Broadbent
"Medium-deep ruby; a meaty farmyard smell - I was told that Morvèdre needs oxygenin its early stages; medium sweet; ripe, goodfruit, a touch of CO². Lovely acidity. Oct 2001.(****) needs bottle age"

Score: 89 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
The 1996 Beaucastel is performing better after time in the bottle. With high acidity, this tannic, austere example is reminiscent (at least texturally) of a young Medoc. Blackberry, earthy, leathery, spicy notes can be found in the aromas. In the mouth, the wine exhibits medium body, tangy acidity, plenty of meaty Mourvedre characteristics, and a structured, austere finish. It should only be purchased by those with the patience to wait for this wine to develop. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015

Three recent Cellartracker notes

Nice garnet red colour with little to no bricking. The nose provided scents of olive, game meat, and dark fruit and subtle violet note. The feel in mouth was medium with no tannins with flavours of red and dark fruits, game meat, and tapenade. Solid wine drink now until 2028. Score 92

Dinner with Beaucastel (Chez moi): From PB. Friendly, round –and mature. Very fine neuf from a small vintage, still no signs of fatigue, not even on day 2. Bravo
