Robert Parker had a tasting of mature top-class Australian reds in June 2009.At the time he thought that the 1997 Creek Block was still too young to drink,so 5 years later this wine should have come out of its shell. His comments on the 1997 Greenock Creek Creek Block Shiraz were as follows:-
"Greenock Creek has always been one of my favourite Barrosa Valley wineries...great proprietors,tiny yields,old vines,and a hands off style of winemaking.Of all the flights we tasted,these stood out as being the most riveting of the entire tasting.
Blackberry and blueberry liqueur,graphite,acacia flowers and pepper are present in the 1997 Shiraz Creek Block.This wine is even younger than the Shiraz Seven Acres.Interestingly the latter is from 7-10-year-old vines and the Creek Block is from 60+ year-old Shiraz vines.Another sensational effort the 1997 Creek Block is still too young to appreciate,but it has an incredible future ahead of it.
