Description

In 1988 Villa Bel-Air was bought by the Cazes family of Lynvh-Bages fame.New technology and equipment have been brought in.The old parcels of land that had been pulled out were replanted and the property was equipped with a new drainage system.Fermented in stainless steel tanks, after blending, the wines are oak aged for 12 to 15 months and each barrel is racked every three months. The improvement in facilities has resulted in the winery producing the best ever wine in the extraordinary 2000 vintage:-

"A sleeper of the vintage and the finest yet made at this estate, this textbook Graves exhibits sweet black cherry and mocha notes with tobacco and scorched earth characteristics in the background.A gorgeously supple plush texture possesses wonderful up-front appeal.Layered, rich, and precocious, this is one 2000 that will not require extended cellaring".
(88-89 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #134. April 2001).

A couple of more recent tasting notes on the 2000 Villa Bel-Air on CellarTracker:-

"Needs some time to open.Pretty austere at the outset, but there is still life left in this.Subdued red fruits, good earthy tones,Graves-like finish.Better with food than on its own.Probably time to drink up".
(90 Points).

CellarTracker. (12/10/2016).

"When I get a good basic bottle like this,I wonder why I spend so much on classified growths.Great classic Bordeaux nose of cedar, black fruit and earth. At close to peak with solid fruit and good tertiary elements.Medium body, tannins fully integrated, but good acidity and structure.Great black fruits, earth, pencil lead, minerality and nice finish.Basically all you want in a Bordeaux at great pricing.Should be OK for a few more years".
(90 Points).
