"A brilliant achievement and one of the wines of the vintage,Pape-Clement's remarkable 2001 should surpass their fabulous 2000.A magnificent effort,it was produced from yields of 28.6 hectoliters per hectare and the final blend consisted of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.The multitiered/layered 2001 boasts an opaque purple color,amazing purity and presence on the palate,a sensational texture and loads of graphite,lead pencil,plum,fig,black cherry,and currant fruit.Medium-bodied,extraordinarily elegant,as well as remarkably concentrated,pure and suave,it is a tour-de-force in winemaking. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2028".

On 26/10/2004 Executive Wine Seminars (see eRobertParker.com) held a blind tasting of the 2001 Bordeaux vintage.It included all the First-Growths (except Mouton-Rothschild),Cheval-Blanc,Pape-Clement,and several Super-seconds,including Cos D'Estournel and Leoville Las Cases.
Chateau Pape-Clement was accorded best wine of the evening with a massive majority of 99 voting points.The second best wine with a total of 54 points was Chateau Margaux (First-Growth).There were 52 people attending and voting at the tasting,and the tasting note for Chateau Pape-Clement 2001 was as follows:-
"Medium deep color.Rich,smoky,gamy,woody nose combines beautifully with ripe cherry.Equally gorgeous on the palate,offering grace and elegance as well as complexity and penetrating depth of flavor.There are notes of chocolate and mint.The tannins and acidity are perfect and the finish is consistent and extremely long.This wine was wasily "the wine of the night" and unquestionably the greatest Pape-Clement we have ever encountered.If you haven't tried it yet,what are you waiting for? This many people can't be wrong".
