The 2001 Dead Arm Shiraz has been one of the greatest vintages of this wine ever produced:-
"The D'Arenberg estate's most renowned offering is their old vine (90+ years) Shiraz called the Dead Arm.Readers should be on the lookout for the 2001 Dead Arm Shiraz,one of the greatest examples of this cuvee.Its dense black/purple color is accompanied by celestial aromas of melted licorice,graphite,blackberries,cassis,incense,anise,and toasty oak.Fabulously concentrated,with great purity,and unctuous texture,and an amazingly long,60-second finish,this fabulous baby will need 5-6 years of cellaring and should drink well for 20-25 years".

In 2003,the 2001 Dead Arm Shiraz was awarded a Gold Medal in the London International Wine Challenge...a Gold Medal also at the San Francisco International Wine Competition,also a Gold Medal at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.Also in 2005 the D'Arenberg winery was awarded a Gold Medal for "Winery of the Year" at the San Francisco Int'l Wine Competition and the Sydney Int'l Wine Competition.
