The history of this 50 hectare estate can be traced back to Roman times. In the 18th century, the then owner Marquis de Ségur is reported as saying 'I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon. In tribute to this, there is a heart shape on the label and in many places around the estate.
In October 2003, the Wine Advocate stated " This bastion of traditionally made wine has fashioned a firm, structured potentially long lived blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. (When young)The wine shows an opaque ruby/purple colour, followed by a moderately closed but promising nose of red and black fruits interwoven with loamy soil and underbrush notes. Nicely textured, medium to full bodied, it may be a modern day rendition of the brilliant 1988."
