Description

I'm going to let Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) give you the take on this finest Crozes-Hermitage from his 2009 synopsis, viz: "Perhaps the finest wine made in the appellation is Chapoutier’s Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonnieres. The 2006 exhibits a classic Crozes perfume of creme de cassis, black olives, spice box, and flowers, good underlying acidity, a sweet, expansive, full-bodied mouthfeel, and tremendous concentration as well as length. This is about as great as Crozes-Hermitage is capable of being, and it could easily be mistaken for a top Hermitage. Enjoy it over the next 15-20 years. 95/100 points."

I can only trump that by saying that I feel it has grown even more beautiful over the period since he wrote that, now five years ago, and it's at its peak with some way to go too if you'd like to cellar it further. Absolutely delicious with its 95 points. An hour before serving, decant carefully into a jug through muslin as it will throw sediment, wash out the bottle and pour the wine back into the magnum to serve. Delicious and rich.
