Wine Advocate-April 2009 95-97 points. An individual great Montrose. After some time in wood it showed the heights of the 2003, 1990 and 1989. This superb terroir west of the Gironde possesses a remarkable amount of gravel. Only 60% of the production made it into the wine, and, the person responsible for many great Haut Brions, J. Bernard Delmas, took charge of the last few vintages. Inky purple colour is accompanied by sweet pure aromas of black fruits and spice, this full bodied wine exhibits superb concentration, sweet tannins, a multilayered full bodied texture and mouthfeel with no hard edges. The sweetness of the tannins and the extracted purity of the fruit and intense concentration suggest a year of great ripeness. The difference between the 08 and 03 is freshness and a purity of expression.. a wine that should age 35 years yet will drink surprisingly well when young
