"Charly Thevenet began his recent career already behind ... in an admirable way, that is inasmuch as he determined not to release his sole cuvee in any hurry; nor had he yet been ready to show me his 2009 Regnie Grain & Granit in time for my issue 190 report (in which I identified him as “Charles,” not realizing when I tasted from a cleanskin bottle that “Charly” is the name that appears on his label). Diverse, bittersweet floral perfumes mingle with dark berries, prune, and walnut oil make for a striking nose, then inform a palpably extract-rich palate to which cherry pit and dark chocolate add further bittersweet allure. Yet for all of its low-toned, torrefactive richness and caressing texture, this positively bursts with bright, primary finishing juiciness and mouthwatering salinity."
