Description

In 1990 Chateau La Garde was bought by Dourthe, the negociant house in Bordeaux and the standard of the wines have since improved enormously.
The 2009 vintage for petits vins/Cru Bourgeois wines in Bordeaux was considered by Robert Parker comparable in quality to the legendary 1982 vintage and according to the professional tasting notes below,La Garde performed exceptionally well and should be drinking wonderfully now,but perhaps can be cellared for a couple more years.
Graves/Pessac-Leognan do not have a definitive classification system, like the Left Bank Medoc wines. However, the quality of the Chateau La Garde wine (especially in the 2009 vintage) is such that it is the equivalent of a Left Bank Classed Growth:-

"Silky, yet solid, this focused red delivers plenty of black cherry, currant, tobacco and spice flavors, with a firm texture,well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. The long finish carries toast, mineral and floral notes.Best from 2013 through 2023".
(91 Points).

Tom Matthews.(WineSpectator.com March 2012).

"Spicy wood, ginger and nutmeg, balancing with solid black fruits. The wine is rich,a powerhouse of sweet tannins, finishing freshly with blackcurrant juice".
(92-94 Points).

Roger Voss. (The Wine Enthusiast. Barrel Sample.September 2010).

"Blueberry, mineral and dried flower aromas follow through to a full-body,with silky tannins and a juicy, slightly austere finish.Structured and dense.Very well done.Better in 2018".
(93 Points).

James Suckling. (JamesSuckling.com 15/2/2012).
