Description

Since Vincent Maurel (the proprietor) engaged the hugely talented wine consultant Philippe Cambie in 2003,the critical acclaim of the Clos Saint-Jean wines has been immense and this Domaine has been propelled into world-wide stardom. The quality of their wines has been transformed and the estate is now considered to be one of the greatest Domaines in Chateauneuf du Pape:-

"Also spectacular, but more evolved, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina reveals classic Provencal scents of roasted herbs, lavender, charcuterie, blackberries, licorice, kirsch, and bouquet garni. This super-complex,layered,multidimensional wine possesses remarkable purity and richness as well as silky tannins. One of the most open-knit Deus Ex Machinas made to date,it will be difficult to resist when young, and should age well for 20+ years".
(99 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #197. October 2011).

"In contrast, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Deus Ex Machina is an extroverted, open and insanely perfumed effort that boasts killer blackberry and kirsch-styled fruit to go with layers of spring flowers, exotic spice and graphite. As are all of these efforts,it's full-bodied,deeply concentrated and textured on the palate, with masses of sweet tannin. It will be better in a couple of years and evolve gracefully for two decades, but it's hard to resist right now. Drink: 2014-2034".
(99 Points).

Jeb Dunnuck. (The Wine Advocate. #214. August 2014).
