Description

The bodega of Pago de los Capellanes is located one kilometre from the village of Pedrosa de Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero. The name means ‘land of the chaplains’, a reminder that the land was owned by chaplains until the church donated it to the city council in 1855. The vineyards are planted with a 100%Tempranillo and are divided into 35 different plots which are harvested separately. The wines are aged for one to three years (depending on style) in 22 different types of French oak, and offer a modern style alternative to the wines of Vega Sicilia.

The Pago de Los Capellanes Parcela El Nogal is a single-vineyard wine from a 13-year-old plot called El Nogal (the oak tree. The Nogal is aged for a generous 22 months in 100% Allier oak, all new and of medium toast. The 10% Cabernet Sauvignon has added a little structure, firming up the tannins which cloak the cornucopia of ripe fruit. This wine exemplifies all the virtues of fine winemaking in this lauded vintage, namely harmonious tannins, ripe black fruit and real poise on the finish.

Visually has an intense purple cardinal, with dark red edges. Typical closed shell Tinto Fino grape, dense and abundant tears. Nose : aromas of flowers and fresh fruits fill our senses, appearing later tones of vanilla, cacao, roasted, new leather, confirming the proper assembly of wood with the grape. Tones of sandalwood and spice and liquorice snuff or leave a pleasant and persistent memory. The palate entry is elegant, fleshy, refreshing the palate. Progress is powerful and complex and leaves a, intense, long aftertaste of ripe grape and round, fine tannins.

The Tempranillo grapes for this single variety Tempranillo grow on a 6 hectare plot and are harvested and processed separately from the other wines. El Nogal from Pago de los Capellanes shows an exceptional concentration and quality in colour and aroma and can therefore be described as an exceptional red wine.
Combined with spicy meat dishes and strong cheese it impresses most intensively.
