Description

The Chateau Ferrand vineyard is on the southern slope of the Pomerol plateau. It has 12 hectares planted with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc.
The wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new. These bottles have an alcohol level of 13%.
Pomerol is by far the smallest appellation in Bordeaux and according to Hugh Johnson MW. the wines are usually distinguished by their deep colour and sometimes creamy, concentrated ripe-plum flavours but without the high acidity and tannins that are typical of other Bordeaux wines.
Because of their comparative rarity and slight difference in style,Pomerol wines tend to sell at a premium price compared to other Bordeaux appellations.
2010 was a magnificent vintage in Bordeaux and an outstanding vintage for Pomerol:-

"It is an unescapable truth that 2010 has produced another year of compelling Bordeaux that will go down as a prodigeous vintage alongside 2009.
Take your pick - this news is either tragic or mythical, but I have tasted enough wines from 2005,2009,and 2010 to realize that these may be the three greatest Bordeaux vintages I have tasted in my career".

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate).
