Description

The soil of Ferraton's Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph plot is made up of decomposed granite and is situated 250 meters high on Tournon's steep slopes.Planted with 100% Syrah vines, the vineyard is the original birthplace site of the Saint Joseph AOC.
The barrel ageing lasts for 12 to 14 months in oak,of which 10% is new.
There is a minute production of this wine and it performed exceptionally well in the magnificent 2010 Rhone vintage:-

"There are only 119 cases of the Ferraton Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph.From hillside vineyards situated between Mauves and Tournon, this wine exhibits notes of pen ink, graphite, black raspberries and crushed rocks in a medium-bodied,nicely concentrated style. It can be drunk now or cellared for another decade.
The quality of Ferraton's wines has been increasing with nearly every new vintage thanks to the efforts of Michel Chapoutier and Pierre-Henri Morel, who has responsibility for these wines".
(93 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. December 2012).

"Very pure nose with aromas of small, very ripe black berries and a lot of minerality.
On the palate,a very deep and mineral wine, spicy, with very ripe red fruit.A very long lasting wine".
