Description

1977 was a mediocre vintage in Rioja, but it also marked the 100th birthday of Bodegas Berberana, so they pulled out all the stops to produce a special reserva to celebrate their centenary.

It's drinking remarkably well at 37 years of age, with a light ruby colour, delicate clean red fruits and a subtle herbiness on the nose and palate, and well-balanced acidity. Lovely stuff, and such a nice surprise on tasting, that I bought a job lot at auction when more came to market recently!
