Description

2 bottles of mature Pauillac from the superb 1982 vintage.

Probably drinking just about at peak now.

Latest cellartracker note:

1/28/2015 - Lakefarm Likes this wine: 89 Points

Served as a "surprise" blind after 96 DRC echezeaux.
Held up nicely, transparent brick color, stewed blackberries, tobacco and a little pencil on the nose. Fresh acidity and surprising amounts of somewhat fresh fruit on the palate. Sure it has peaked, but drinking nicely for this age at this level.

Neal Martin of Wine Advocate tasted it in Nov 2012:
Tasted at Pebbles/Zachy’s 1982 dinner in Hong Kong. I have always enjoyed this 1982, one of the estate’s best offerings of that decade. Comparing this directly against Haut-Batailley, this has more cohesion and vitality on the nose with pencil shavings, blackberry, briary and a hint of Girolle. The palate is very “classic” in style with a gentle grip, dry tannins and crisp acidity and these neatly counterbalance decent fruit concentration. There is an agreeable touch of austerity here although the finish retains fine vigour, with graphite notes lingering on the aftertaste. It has lost a little vigour in recent years, but it remains a decent, old school Pauillac. 89 points.

Tasted by Jamie Goode (Wine Anorak) in 2011:
"Some richness on the nose which shows sweet, warm spices and some meatiness. Ripe and quite mineral. The palate has appealing, seamless ripe fruit with spice and mineral undertones. Lovely purity: this is still a linear wine ageing in a nice direction. Combines ripeness and elegance to good effect. 94/100"
