Description

Two bottles of this 3rd growth Margaux from a case recently removed from a Cambridge College cellar. Berry Brothers bottled (still very common in the 60s). Levels not great, but acceptable for age at mid-high shoulder, with no signs of seepage - and both bottles look a healthy red colour under a bright light.

Average Cellartracker score 90.5 points.

Here are the two most recent notes:

This 3rd growth is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Decanted 2 hours before dinner to remove sediment. Crumbly cork but tight. Moderate sediment. This still had a solid red color with only a little bricking. Aromas of coffee and leather. Good secondary notes which centered on the earthy side. Some red fruit with tobacco, iron and graphite. This held up well over the 2-3 hours which we drank it. 90-91 points.

6/21/2016 - EhrlichDY Likes this wine: 93 Points

Popped and poured and enjoyed over an hour or so with steak dinner. Fill into the neck and good dark color indicate that this was obviously a well stored bottle. Classic Bordeaux here. Cedar and currant with savory mushroom notes. Loads of freshness. Oh, and a good depth and strength on the nose and flavor. This is in the zone. Drink now.
