Description

Two bottles of one of the most successful 1975s from the whole of Bordeaux. Excellent provenance, having recently been removed from a Cambridge College cellar.

"The 1975 Giscours is one of the outstanding successes for the vintage. Close to full maturity, it exhibits a powerful, well-balanced style. The color remains a healthy dark garnet. The wine possesses rich, concentrated fruit, full body, admirable ripeness, and an overall sense of balance despite strong tannin in the finish. This thick, rich Giscours may be the finest wine made between 1970-1994. It will continue to drink well for another 15+ years. Should readers see this wine at auction, it will probably sell for a low price. It is a classic, top-flight 1975."

And this wine is still going strong today - check out a string of recent 90+ reviews on Cellartracker including these:

Cork was damp but not to top and pulled out cleanly. Color was deep ruby, no browning. Firm and smooth on palate with tannins still lingering. Better decanted. Did not fade during long dinner.

3/10/2016 - aquacongas Likes this wine: 92 Points

Typical cassis and Bordeaux nose, all people guessed much younger, some 2005, I guessed 1990, some iodine, pencil, very concentrated, long finish, at his peak, for some a little bit over the top, 92-93
