Description

Three bottles of this highly respected fifth growth Pauillac. 1993 was a mediocre vintage generally, but Grand Puy Lacoste were particularly successful and produced a good wine which should now be drinking somewhere near peak.

Parker reviewed it in 1995 and wrote:
"A potentially outstanding wine, its proprietor, Xavier Borie, has fashioned a classic Pauillac, with a saturated dark ruby/purple color, a sweet nose of cassis fruit and spice, full body, superb concentration, and moderate tannin in the heady finish. This large-scaled 1993 avoids the tannin and austerity of many of its peers. Drink it between 2000-2015. Bravo!"

Neal Martin reviewed it a little later, in 2000, and wrote:
"A fine 1993. Leaner on the nose with light cherry flavored fruits. Quite a lively palate with tobacco notes. In some ways more harmonious than the 94 with better definition. A fine wine for the rather mediocre 1993 vintage. Tasted October 2000."

On Cellartracker, Kevin H wrote the following in 2009:

"An absolutely classic Pauillac. A little hard on the finish when first tasted but an hour in the decanter and it softened into a sturdy but balanced, leafy, blackcurrant scented and flavoured claret. Great with mushrooms of toast. Vigorous and youthful still but very approachable. From an unfashionable vintage, this could be a wine to look out for at auction."
