Description
I have for sale 2 bottles of Grand Puy Lacoste 2003 in very good condition. GPL is widel regarded as one of the best value Chateau in Bordeaux, consistently delivering excellent claret at great value. It's won the Livex best value Chateau in en-primeur every year in recent years.

Blackberry and licorice aromas, with full body, very fine tannins and a long finish. Very silky. So much for jammy wines in 2003. Very fresh and refined. Best after 2008. 15,555 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2006.

Spicy and cedary. Rounded but still quite firm. Nice fruit sustains the middle, and overall it has a natural elegance.

This has improved and I enjoyed it more than a couple of other bottles opened a couple of years ago. Tannins have softened and fruit and cedar dominate. Don't know where it goes from here, but quite nice now.

Rather untypical claret, with soft, ripe, slightly sweet fruit, but not much else; lacking true claret character, and a little short of concentration and length. Enjoyable enough, but not a great example.

Superb wine, drinking near its peak, though with enough life and energy to last many years from here. Blackcurrant, plums, cedar, mocha. Powerful fruit nicely balanced with refined acidity and silky but present tannins. Lovely wine.

Rich royal purple and ruby red with rich aromatics of cassis, currant and blackberry. Spice, forest floor, hints of lead pencil and wafts of spring garden merge with ripe fruit and mouth caressing texture to provide a value delight. Last bottle.

Always a controversial wine but for me an example of a difficult year in a great terroir. Certainly a charming cassis, cedar and licorice nose. The palate is round with a lovely core of sweet berry fruit and quite a fine finish without the profound balance and drive of a great GPL. Charming and the better for the age without any signs of early decline.

Opaque purple core with a tawny rim. Intoxicating and intense perfume of cassis, cedar, graphite and hint of tobacco. Leaning towards the savory end of the spectrum. Dense, youthful and edgy. The medium bodied palate is supported by vibrant acidic black fruits transitioning to a mouth-filling blueberry liqueur sweetness on the long finish. Tannins still pretty chalky. The wine lost its balance about an hour after uncorking, becoming more acidic and tannic - a strange development
