I have for sale 3 bottles of Chateau Haut Bailly 1988 in good condition which I'm selling as individual bottles. Capsules and labels in very good condition. These have been stored in OWC.
My reserve is a bargain for a mature Haut Bailly from a massively under rated vintage that was overshadowed (and as a result offers real value) by 1989 and 1990.

Dark chocolate, with meat, fresh mushroom and a light espresso undertone. Full-bodied, with ultrarefined tannins and a meaty, berry, earth and spice undertone, even game. Rich and generous. What a surprise. Much better than I remember. (Web-2009).

December 10, 2016 - Drinking very nicely right now. Classic Graves aromas - smoke, tobacco, and gravel around a core of red fruit that's still very fresh, with other savoury earthy and faintly leathery notes emerging with more air. Beautiful aromatics that are echoed on the palate, though it feels a bit lean on the finish with some of that '88 tannin coming through on the back end. Still, at $50, this was a steal.

Haut Bailly Dinner (Medlar, Chelsea): Youthful appearance - deep ruby, medium pale ruby rim. Lovely nose - black and red berry fruits, tobacco. Medium bodied, blackcurrant, tobacco, firm but fine tannin, very good length finish. Lovely ****.

Haut Bailly (Medlar, London): Amazingly dense, full and almost purple-tinged ruby. Huge difference from the 85. Dense dark red-fruited nose. So fragrant. Dense attack. Some dryness on the finish in line with the vintage but far more vibrant than I remembered it being.****

Poured into a decanter for 30 mins. It opened up with soil, earth, minerals, forest and metal. Classic aged pessac wine. There is still acid and vibrant fruit to make it interesting.
