Description

Some recent tasting notes of this incredible wine from a marvellous vintage. Must rank exceptionally close to the '45 and '61.

WOTN vs '62 and '03 Latour. I had two bottles of the '53 and this one was similar to the first one that I tasted last month, however it had more vitality and a beautiful red fruit essence that held up over a two and a half hour dinner. Lots of clove, spices, and a a plush velvet texture. Ultimately this had astonishing strength and character. A special old bottle of bdx.

Exciting that this was very much intact. No brett. Great color for a sixty year old. Probably at the beginning of a decline curve - but aging gracefully. Smooth and gentle, but retaining its essential body, acidity, and identity. Aromas and flavors were classic aged Pauillac. Touches of cinnamin and clove over red fruit, cigar box, leather. More grace than power at this stage of life. A classy old wine to drink now.

"20 Vintages of Latour at Daniel." This was the wine I most wanted to take to dinner tonight as it was just singing. Incredible silky smoothness with lovely terroir-driven flavors especially grilled nuts, tar, graphite and sweet/smoky earth. Finishes fine and complex with utter class and breed. In the softer style of Latour with the tannins fully resolved but much more depth of flavor than the '62. Just gorgeous.....
