I have for sale one bottle of Chateau Margaux 1988. The cheapest this can be bought in the UK is £324, my reserve is well below this.
As can be seen from the photos although the label is slightly marked, the capsule and levels are excellent for a wine which is 28 years old.
WINE SPECTATOR
Wow. Wonderfully fresh, with currant, blackberry and flowers on the nose. I just want to keep on smelling it. Full-bodied, with ultravelvety tannins and loads of berry and chocolate character. Dense and firm. Big wine, muscular. Drinkable now, but it's going to get a lot better with bottle age. '88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 25,000 cases made. Margaux 1988 served at John Avery’s memorial dinner this January was superb: lovely fragrance, smoothness and depth, fine and dry with beautiful texture. Tasted in November 2000, Broadbent gave it two stars, but the potential for four stars and ‘possibly five-star when fully mature, say 2010-2020’. As usual, Michael and I agree.
