Description

I have for sale one bottle of Chateau Margaux 1988. As can be seen from the photo the capsule and levels are excellent. The label is torn as can be seen from the photo.

Only selling as I have completely overspent on wine and need to (reluctantly) sell some of my high value wine to recoup the money as quickly as possible.

This is a bargain for mature Chateau Margaux from a very good vintage that was undervalued because it was overshadowed by 1989 and 1990. As a result I would argue a 1988 Chateau Margaux represents one of the best value vintages on the market.

WINE SPECTATOR

Wow. Wonderfully fresh, with currant, blackberry and flowers on the nose. I just want to keep on smelling it. Full-bodied, with ultravelvety tannins and loads of berry and chocolate character. Dense and firm. Big wine, muscular. Drinkable now, but it's going to get a lot better with bottle age. '88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Drink now. 25,000 cases made. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 2009 - 96 points

Margaux 1988 served at John Avery’s memorial dinner this January was superb: lovely fragrance, smoothness and depth, fine and dry with beautiful texture. Tasted in November 2000, Broadbent gave it two stars, but the potential for four stars and ‘possibly five-star when fully mature, say 2010-2020’. As usual, Michael and I agree.
