A typically sturdy St. Estephe, a classic Cru Bourgeois from the northern reaches of the Medoc.
Traditional Bordeaux blend of predominantly Cabernet with Merlot and a seasoning of Petit Verdot, the wine would have been aged 15 months in 30% new French oak.
Ripe black fruit, spice and leather on the nose; cedar and cassis still on the palate, with nicely ripe tannins.
This is a wine that responds to at least a decade of ageing. Drinking well now, but with a few years of cellar life left. It likes all the classic dishes from venison and game birds to lamb and beef, mushrooms and hearty vegetarian dishes.
At this age it doesn't need long decanting - just enough to remove the sediment.
