Graysonline comment of this wine that:

“Ideally situated on the banks of the estuary of the Gironde on hilltops of alluvial gravel carried by the Dordogne River from the Massif Central and from the Pyrénées by the Garonne, Château Talbot’s terroir is exceptional.

Talbot is a true champion of longevity, even when young Talbot is pleasant and rounded, ever distinguished by silky, mild and very civilized tannins. It possesses an extraverted nature. It’s never withdrawn into itself, and has the courtesy of being in a good mood every day. It’s a racy wine, with complex marks of Havana and liquorice, classically delicious without ever the slightest hint of austerity.”

They go on to say that:

“Undeniably, Talbot is one of the most famous Médoc wines. This fine reputation is no doubt due to a mysterious combination of factors, such as the size of its vineyard, nearly one hundred hectares, and the regularity of its wine. Nearly a century in the same family.
‘For many, Talbot embodies the ideal Saint Julien, a generous bouquet, extremely stable and dependable during aging,’ emphasize Bettane and Desseauve in their Guide to French.

En antikwein.de, describe that:

“The classical dry red wine comes from the appellation St. Julien in Bordeaux. Chateau Talbot takes its name from Connetable Talbot. Talbot was the governor of Guyenne. In 1453, he was killed during the battle in the fight at Castillon. Later Chateau Talbot was owned by the Marquis d’Aux-Lally. Chateau Talbot remained in the hands of his direct descendants until the close of the 19th century. In 1917, the Cordier family bought Chateau Talbot. The Cordier family were well known in Bordeaux as negociants and for decades were responsible for distributing 100% of the wine from Chateau Talbot. The Cordier family They also owned another St. Julien estate, Chateau Gruaud Larose, as well as Chateau Cantemerle in Haut Medoc and Lafaurie Peyraguey in Sauternes.

The Bordeaux vineyard of Chateau Talbot occupies 102 hectares of vines in the Medoc in the St. Julien appellation. Chateau Talbot has one of the largest vineyards in the Medoc. Chateau Talbot also occupies the highest elevations in the St Julien appellation at 23 meters. The terroir of Chateau Talbot is mostly gravel based soils and is planted to 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.”
