"The steep,sheltered vineyard (near Larcis-Ducasse) is named after the oxen that are necessary to cultivate the soil.When translated,the name means "the hill of belching beef".Le Tertre Roteboeuf is irrefutably one of Bordeaux's new superstars.In 1996,Tertre-Roteboeuf has fashioned a wine with luxuriously rich fruit and all the elements of sur-maturite - jammy plums,coffee,chocolate,and low acidity.Fat,fleshy,dense flavors coat the palate with an unctuous texture.This is a lucious,rich,silky-textured wine bursting with fruit and personality.I expected this wine to become more structured and delineated with barrel age,but it has become even more decadently hedonistic".

Inky black ruby. Initially boysenberries and black tea with sharp sweet notes. This needs a 2 hour decant to lose the edge and emerge a smooth, mature wine. Drink now or hold. Will last a long time.

Essence of merlot in a beautifully aged extremely well balanced form. Textbook robe for its maturity. Black doris plum - fruit and skin, cedar, leather, earth roast field mushrooms, a touch of menthol and fennel lead to a silky smooth palate in perfect maturity, extraordinary acid and tannic profile and richly balanced wine that finishes in a lengthy and nuanced finish. Has the balance of old school bordeaux. Even with the ripeness of the fruit, the wine is light on its feet. This is drinking very well right now and is the best showing for this
