Description
Five generations of the Martinez Bujanda family have made wine since the foundation of their first winery in 1889. Conde de Valdemar is their flagship Rioja brand and is widely regarded as a benchmark for the top wines of the region. 1994 was a great year, comparable with 2001 as one of the greatest Rioja vintages of all time. This wine is very robust and intensely concentrated with flavours of blackurrant compote, dark chocolate and liquorice with a slightly smoky finish. This wine has been cellared in perfect conditions at the bodega until a few years ago and has been in my cellar ever since. I have drunk a 5 litre and a few magnums of the same wine and it is drinking very well.

7/7/2015 - LILJA WROTE: 91 Points
Fully developed nose with lots of dried fruit, raisins, figs, some woody spices, juniper berries, cinnamon, murky old wood, a little burned and some glue sticks (in a positive way).
Medium acidity, medium bodied, very round with no tannins or hard edges. Medium+ intensity and a long finish.
A textbook mature Rioja. Terrific wine that is incredibly easy to drink without getting boring or simplistic.
