Description

More successful in the North, **** Michael Broadbent

Earthy, gummy, full potential on the nose, plenty of red berry fruit. The attack is stylish, bears refined red fruits, with a copious surround – herbs, tannin, leather. A tight-knit raspberry and white pepper duo bring up the finish. Well sustained, very good core matter here: the palate is a delight, with a lovely, sustained length and flavour. Especially from 2007-08. 2023-24 Nov 2005, New York Previously Dec 2004 ***** great, typical bouquet - earthy, violet, typical; pretty ripe attack, oily, nicely modelled. Granite purity, light heat, some end tar. Classic, very good. 2007 on. 2020-25 Dec 2004 John Livingstone-Learmonth

Intense, with a brooding feel to aromas and flavors of anise, blackberry compote, tar and Chinese plum sauce. Very dense, with a wall of fruit on the finish, this nods to the modern style, but remains very grounded in its iron-clad terroir. Cellar. Best from 2006 through 2011. 150 cases imported." (05/04) 90 points Stephen Tanzer: "Bright, saturated ruby-red. Superripe nose combines dark berries, black licorice, tar and gunflint. Chewy, dense and powerful, with strong peppery character but also good sweetness of fruit.92/100 Stephen Tanzer
