Description

Mas de Daumas Gassac 1998

Mas de Daumas Gassac was established in the 1970s, and since then has come to be described by some as the Grand Cru of Languedoc. Such hyperbole may in some way be warranted, as the estate has indeed turned out some wines of excellent quality over the last few decades. What is more, they are made very much in the Bordeaux mould, based on Cabernet Sauvignon, with the necessary structure and substance for a prolonged period of ageing in the cellar.

Elegant, open nose displaying herby, leathery berry fruit. The palate is still quite tight with spicy tannins. Rich and nicely poised. Quite claret like and ageing nicely. Very good+

2001-2017

28/8/2011 Not decanted. Bright dark red showing little signs of age. Spicy, herby Côte du Rhône style. Still fresh with rich berry fruits and the start of some aromas. Good balance, still tannins on the finish but plenty of fruit to support. Excellent (90-94)
15/5/2011 Bricking dark red violet colour; silky textured, tart black fruit, long finish 92+ points
21/3/2011: Inky with substantial age. Very attractive fruity nose with flowery notes and some development, quite complex. Juicy attack, very soft but substantial tannins, beautiful balance, plenty of life left - but drinking very well now. 92 points
