Description

Beaujolais has been going through something of a renaissance in recent years, helped by some stunning vintages. More and more wine lovers are beginning to appreciate the joys of a soft, fruity red which is really versatile when it comes to food and doesn't tip the scales at 14.5%. Marcel Lapierre is one of the top names in Morgon and his conversion to biodynamic practices in the vineyard, where the cycles of the moon play a vital part, is perhaps helping to raise standards even higher.

Sadly Marcel Lapierre sadly passed away in early October 2010 after suffering from a long term illness. Marcel's son Mathieu who has been working alongside his father since 2005, will continue to run the Domaine. Our Buyer Tim Marson said " Marcel was a leading protagonist in the movement for more natural wines in France, following biodynamic principles in the vineyard and bottling part of his output without the addition of any sulphur. His 11 hectares of vines have an average age of 45 years and are all planted on the decomposed schist that mark the best terroirs in this part of Beaujolais. It is a fitting testament to this legendary winemaker that Marcel's last full vintage was the incredible 2009. Rated 93+ in The Wine Advocate."
