Description

1b of this great wine from a great vintage. Has lain in my temperature-controlled cellar since purchase.

Ullaged to just under mid-shoulder but no seepage over it's long life

Robert Parker notes :

Tasted 3 Times With Consistent Notes

The 1955 should be a vintage to buy at auction as I suspect the price is more reasonable than what such acclaimed vintages as 1959 and 1961 fetch. The color reveals no amber or rust, only a slight lightening of intensity at the edge. The nose offers up that explosive Mouton perfume of mint, leather, cassis, black olives, and lead pencil. In the mouth, there is stunning concentration, magnificent extraction of fruit, and plenty of tannin in the long finish. The wine still tastes remarkably young and could easily last another 20-30 years. Amazing!

Drink 1994 - 2024

Cellartracker note :

9/25/2017 - KENK LIKES THIS WINE: 97 Points
1955 First Growth Face Off (El Ideas): Dark brooding color looking a bit younger than one might expect. Some thought this bottle may have been topped with a hit of syrah as was common from some bottlers in the day, but I think this was the real deal. In any case, aromas here were screaming classic Mouton. Dark sweet black fruits with a wet forest floor note and a touch of burnt charred oak. An amazing palate that was rich, dense and spicy. Dark sweetness throughout and a nice zip to balance the fruit intensity. Great length to a finish that ends with wonderful black earthy spices. A wow wine from start to finish. Classic Mouton. Tasted from two bottles with consistent notes.
