Penfolds, Grange, 1999
South Australia Shiraz
Barossa Valley, South Australia ,Australia
Grange is recognised as Australia's and indeed one of the worlds finest red wines . This great wine developed by Max Schubert commencing with the 1951 vintage is made from low yielding Shiraz vines grown at selected vineyards in South Australia and matured in New American oak hogsheads prior to bottling.
Officially listed as a heritage icon of South Australia: a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. Richly textured, intensely concentrated and packed with fruit sweetness.
It has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over four decades, and each vintage is eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.
Reviews..
“Only the third Grange to be made from 100% Shiraz, the 1999 Grange is superb...gorgeously sweet notes of blackberries intermixed with smoke, licorice, and asphalt. This is a wine of great intensity, sweet tannin, voluptuous texture, and a spectacularly long finish.” eRobertParker.com
"Sexy aromas of raspberry, cola, root beer and coconut. Thick, dense and concentrated, with exotic, slightly candied dark fruit, caramel, toasted coconut and mineral flavors nicely shaped by firm acids." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine
