2007's warm season really suited cabernet sauvignon and also co-incides with new winemaker John Durham's maiden vintage. His 21 years at Cape Mentelle in Margaret River brings a wealth of experience with fine cabernet. This is an outstanding example. Fine, scented and amazingly pure with layers of ripe cassis fruit. Drink now to 2020. Plantagenet was the first winery in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It is owned by an Englishman, Tony Smith, who emigrated to Australia, encouraged by the Australian government’s offer to ship him and many others out, for the princely sum of £10. This '£10 pom' has made a great success of his new life in Australia and makes some of the finest wines in Western Australia.
