Description

The 1999 J.J.Hahn 1914 Shiraz was made by the renowned Australian winemaker Rolf Binder from vines planted by Hermann Hahn (the present owner's James Hahn's great-grandfather) in 1914 in the heart of the Barossa Valley, close to Tanunda.
A genuine old vine planting of this age in Australia is rare.Hence, the unique earthy concentrated flavours of licorice, leather, blackberry and spice that should prove its seal of authenticity.
The 1914 Shiraz is only produced in good Barossa Valley vintages.

"As for the famed 1999 Shiraz 1914 (from an 85-year-old vineyard),it exhibits a more saturated ruby/purple color as well as creamy, ripe, blackberry liqueur characteristics, intermixed with notions of licorice, smoke, and compost.Full-bodied and unctuously textured with sweet, rich fruit, this fleshy,well-balanced Shiraz can be drunk now and over the next decade. For readers that want to compare the 1999 with the kinky,over-sized 1998,the 1999 is far more evolved and approachable".
(90 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #143.October 2002).
