Description

Textured, full-bodied wine with the classic qualities of a Vargellas vintage port: the attractive dark ruby red colour and lush bouquet of black fruit. Excellently structured on the palate with firm sinewy tannin and full, juicy full-bodied fruit. Complex with great aroma and finale. Low rainfall in the winter of 1986 was followed by warm dry spring weather and a long hot summer. The sugar levels were high and the colour yield, despite rather short fermentation times, good. The harvest started in hot, dry weather, but about halfway the weather changed and from 23 to 26 September rain fell. Then it cleared up again and the reading was completed in good conditions. This has been cellared since purchase, and is ready for drinking now.
