Description

Torbreck's The Factor 2001 is a knockout Shiraz made from small parcels of select fruit from old, dry grown, vines which are matured separately in 70% (old) and 30% (new) French oak.

The name 'Factor' is taken from the name of the manager on a Scottish highland estate, while Torbreck is named after a forest in Scotland where winemaker David Powell once worked as a lumberjack.

Reviews..

"The 100% Shiraz offering, the exquisite 2001 The Factor, aged 24 months in French oak (30% new), possesses a roasted, Cote Rotie character than its Shiraz siblings. Blackberry, blueberry, espresso roast, smoke, and a roasted component are found in this intense, rich effort along with considerable structure, fabulous density, and a broad, deep, profound palate." eRobertParker.com

"A big wine with an extraordinary sense of elegance, positively glowing with gorgeous blueberry, plum and white pepper flavours that skim across the palate like a sailboat in a perfect wind. Hints of mineral and spice weave through the long, long finish. Classic stuff." Wine Spectator

“David Powell has not let success go to his head, or subvert the individuality and sheer quality of his wines, all created around very old, dry-grown, bush-pruned vineyards.” James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
