Spanna has often been cited by wine experts as one of Italy s greatest ageing wines. Grown in the northern Piedmont, where Nebbiolo is known by the name of Spanna, tends to produce lighter, more earthy wines.

A little bit of history about the Cantina Sociale dei Colli Novaresi:
It was 1954 when, in Fara Novarese, in the hills near the Sesia River, 91 wine growers chose the path of collaboration, committing themselves to the total conferral of production - a fundamental rule for aiming at quality - thus establishing the Cantina Sociale dei Colli Novaresi. Twenty centuries ago, Pliny the Elder(Plinio il Vecchio) wrote of the vines that covered the Novaresi hillsides and provided good wine, as evidenced by some olpe (earthenware jugs for mixing) found in Fara Novarese, now preserved in the archaeological museum in Novara, and some frescoes found in the oldest church in Fra Novarese dating back to the 1400s.
