Description

A remarkably well preserved bottle from the 1973 vintage. "Rescued" from the dark depths of an underground cellar in a large house in west Kent where it had lain since purchase in the late 1970's.

The level is shown in a photo: about 1.2 cm below the bottom of the foil.
The foil has a 'rub' leading to a small piece missing at the level of the cork. The cage is in good order and undisturbed.

The level is 1.3cm below the bottom of the foil.

The label is almost complete bar a small bin scrape - again see photos - and can be considered good for such a venerable bottle.

Amongst those that have tasted this champagne and left comments are -

Wine Spectator rates this champagne at 90/100:
Light to medium body, this is an elegant, discreet and balanced Champagne that has a creamy, smooth mouth-feel and delivers some truffle, honey, lime and hazelnut notes. Refined finish. Perfect to drink now.--Dom Pérignon vertical. –PM

The Cellartraker community have also been generous in their praise:
Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 10 notes)
Tasted by sdr on 4/10/2010 & rated 97 points: Spectacularly good, a revelation. Really old champagne that has been perfectly stored (recent AMC auction purchase) combines the complexity, subtlety and even mystery of age with remarkable liveliness and energy of youth. While deep yellow, the color was too pale to be considered gold. The fragrance grew by the minute and included honeysuckle (not honey) and apricot. Not sweet, yet the ripeness of fruit and the passage of time brought a lush feeling to the taste and a velvety texture on the palate. There were a few lazy streams of bubbles but minimal sensation of gas on the tongue. Stunning and even a tiny bit more interesting than the '73 Oenotheque (disgorged 1999) we compared it to in my opinion. (77 views)

Vintage Tastings, New Year's Eve 2008 (12/31/2008)
(Dom Perignon) It was back to the grill again with a 1973 Dom Perignon, this time from an original magnum. The nose seemed better, more balanced with nice aromas and edge to it, more musky and intoxicating with excellent cream traces. Its flavors of grilled nuts and toast were spot on. 95 points
